Shatordha wanted to select an honest and competent CEO as the successor of his reputed company before a CEO retires. But, as usual, he thought of doing something different by not inheriting any of his board of directors or children.
So one day he said to all the executives "I have decided to appoint the next CEO from among you." Everyone is shocked to hear! But happy again. Their dreams of becoming a CEO are filled with excitement. He continued saying “I will give each of you a 'seed'.
You will plant this seed in a tub, water it, take care of it and bring it to me after exactly one year. I will then judge who will be the next CEO by the seedling that grows from that seed.”
There was a man named Oliver who, like everyone else, returned home with seeds. His wife gathered a tub, soil and manure, and in that tub Oliver planted the seed. Every day he took great care of the seed. Watered regularly.
After three weeks, his colleagues began to tell each other about the plants that grew from their seeds. But alas, nothing grew from Oliver's seeds. In this way, three weeks, four weeks, five weeks passed. He began to think of himself as a failure.
He thought to himself, "I think I spoiled the seed when I planted it." He didn't say anything about it out of shame to his colleagues. Finally a year passed. All the executives of the company brought their overgrown saplings to their CEO. Oliver couldn't go to office with this empty tub. But the wife advised him to be honest about what happened and tell the truth to your CEO.
He would be so embarrassed today – the worry made Oliver sick. But he also knows that his wife is right. He took his empty tub and entered the boardroom to see what beautiful plants were in everyone's tub! Oliver placed his tub on the floor of the room. Many laughed, some expressed sadness. The CEO came to the room and greeted everyone and inspected the entire room.
“Oh my God, what beautiful plants and flowers you have grown!” Suddenly his eyes fell on Oliver. Oliver tried to hide behind in shame. The CEO asked him to come forward. Oliver was very scared. He will lose his job today. “What's up Oliver, what happened to your seed?” asked the CEO. Oliver told him everything.
The CEO asked everyone to sit down, leaving only Oliver to stand. He looked at Oliver and said everyone take a good look at our new CEO, his name is Oliver! Oliver couldn't believe his ears! He could not give birth to any plant! Everyone said "How did he become the CEO?" The CEO said-
“The seeds I gave everyone a year ago were all dead. Because they were boiled. So disappointed that no seedlings germinated, you threw away the seed I gave you and planted new seeds, only for Olive to bravely and honestly bring the empty tub containing the seed I gave you. Congratulate him all with applause.”
So be careful what you plant, it will determine what you will achieve in the future. What you give to life, life will give back to you.
